Aliens

Recently starting watching V as the first two series have come available on Virgin Media. It's about aliens coming apparently in peace to earth but turns out they have been quietly infiltrating earth for years. Really enjoying it so far- your woman Juliet from Lost is the main female lead and her sidekick is a rather attractive priest. Seems to be a very clever drama so far.

On the note of aliens I'm also looking forward to seeing Men in Black 3. Haven't heard much feedback from it so far but I'm hoping its awesome!!

I cannot wait for the New Doctor Who to start but unfortunatly it wont be till end of summer :( A tragic end for Amy and Rory has however been hinted at.

Marryokes

A link for this was put up on facebook today and I think it's awesome! Basically they make a music video from your wedding day to the song of your choice.

I received a wedding invitation in the post today which was rather exciting. For the hen party we are going Snow tubing which is where you go down dry slopes in a rubber ring.

I am looking forward to the wedding (It'll be awesome to see them get married and I love the dancing part after!) but I also don't know who else I'll know besides the bride and groom, who lets face it I'll get to talk to for like 2 seconds! I guess I'll just have to push past the awkwardness and see it as an opportunity to make new friends...

Sherlock Holmes

I saw Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows for the 2nd time tonight. Not as good as the first one I thought but the battle of wits between Moriati and Sherlock is fantastic. It's all so clever. This time round I tried to see if I had concentrated harder the first time could I have deduced from the clues what was really going on. I did pick up on alot more the second time around but my brain definitly doesn't work as fast as Sherlocks. Robert Downey Junior and Jude Law make an excellent Sherlock and Watson, very comic and believable.

On New Year's Day I watched the first episode of the new series of the BBC Sherlock. I think Benedict Cumerbatch makes an awesome Sherlock and I can't decide between him and Robert as to who makes the best Sherlock. I think the fact they are set in completely different periods makes it hard to decide. Sherlock updated to the 21st Century makes for a very relevant and interesting watch.

This second series so far I am loving more than the first. Perhaps for the simple reason being that this time there is some form of a love interest (enter Ms. Addler). I love stories of adventure and mystery and have read many Agatha Christie, Dick Francis and Nancy Drew novels and I love trying to work out how all the clues fit together but ultimately my favorite stories are those that involve romance in some way. I would never re-read Agatha Christie or Dick Francis whereas Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and North and South are books I read over and over again.

3 New Words I've Learnt in 2012 so far...

Kik
Facebook went haywire after Christmas with status's with people's "kik". Apparently it is some sort of bbm thing only not just for people with blackberry's. I think the good thing about it seems to be that it is free to kik so as I have unlimited free texts anyway I don't think I will be bothering. I haven't heard anyone say the word aloud yet but in my head it sounds like "keek" which considering the spelling doesn't really make much sense.

Guido/Guidette
I learnt these two new words tonight whilst hanging out with my friend Nikki with Jersey Shore on in the background. I asked her what the show was about and she told me it was about guido and guidette's who are basically Italian Americans who like to hang out at Jersey Shore. According to Nik the words definitly aren't pronouced how they are spelt.

TV show: Jersey Shore

A Tale of Paradigm Shifts and Adaptability

I found an article with this title and it fits quite well with the purpose of this blog. Basically it is to keep track of the things which are influencing and shaping me as someone who lives in the 21st Century. At uni I learnt about globalisation and how the worldwide interconnectedness is rapidly speeding up, resulting in multiculturalism and a more globalised world. One aspect of this is the Mcdonalization theory which puts forward how American/Western culture is taking over the world.

I am not planning this blog to be academic or profound in anyway but instead to be simply used as a record of 21st Century life.
